FAQ
How does it work?
Thermography enables us to see and measure heat. All materials on earth emit heat energy in the INFRARED portion of the spectrum. Unfortunately, the unaided human eye cannot see in the IR. However, IR cameras cannot only see, but also record infrared images and measure the temperatures of objects and areas of objects quite accurately. Real-time imaging allows the user to see the IR image displayed as the cameras is moved, like a viewfinder.
Although infrared radiation is not visible, humans can sense it – as heat. Put your hand next to a hot oven if you want to experience infrared radiation first-hand!
Can infrared cameras see through walls?
No. IR cannot “see” through anything. They simply see only the surface of items. However, due to varying masses within walls, under roofing materials, etc., different levels of heat across the surface tend to create images that may resemble an X-ray, giving the impression that you are seeing through things.
What is Infrared Thermography used for?
• Detection of moisture
• Energy loss around doors & windows
• Mechanical systems maintenance
• Electrical systems
• Locating radiant floor heating failures
• Wet or missing insulation
• Plumbing clogs
• Flat roof water damage
• HVAC duct leakage
• Termite nests
• Equine saddle fit, leg inflammation and more
How much does it cost?
Currently, IR thermography services are $150 per hour. We recommend a complimentary on-site consultation to discuss the extent of the work you think you need and present you with options so you get the biggest bang for your buck. Call us at 805-237-7750 for more information.
What is your service area?
Currently, we limit our services to Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and parts of Monterey counties, California.
